Perry County Prison Release Paths
Perry County Prison is a county correctional institution operated through the Perry County Prison Board. It holds pretrial detainees, people serving county sentences, people on probation or parole holds, and some people awaiting transfer. Its official page describes detention by court direction and treatment or program work. It does not provide a public inmate search, former-inmate archive, or recent-release list.
A person can leave the prison under bail, a release order, time served, county parole, or sentence expiration. Those outcomes may return the person to the community, sometimes with court supervision. A state commitment instead sends the person to PADOC. Other records can point to another county, a hospital, federal custody, or ICE. The Perry release event should identify whether the destination was the community or another agency.

Confirm Perry County Prison Releases

Use the sources in that order for a recent local case, then add state or federal searches only when the record points there.

An “out of custody” signal does not explain whether bail, time served, dismissal, transfer, or another event occurred. A docket entry can explain the legal authority but may not show when physical processing finished. Pairing both is the sound method. Perry County Prison Custody Profile
The 2025 PREA audit identifies the Perry County Prison Board as the operating agency and describes custody levels from work release through maximum. A 2026 county medical-services request reported an average daily population of 75, about 475 bookings during 2025, and seven housing blocks including work release. Those are dated operational facts, not current population, release totals, or average length of stay.
Bookings are not releases. The county published no annual release total, current capacity certificate, or average stay in the reviewed sources. A correctional-officer position description refers to commitments and release paper, which supports that operational records exist, but it does not establish every public field or a standard form available online.
Get Perry County Prison Records
Use the county’s Open Records Policy and live form for executive-agency prison records. Request an existing electronic booking and release record, not an explanation or newly compiled report. State the person’s full name, approximate admission range, and a docket or date of birth only when needed to distinguish a namesake.
Ask for the booking or admission number and timestamp, actual release date and time, release type or authority, destination or receiving agency if transferred, and booking photograph if maintained. Request segregable nonexempt parts electronically and ask the county to identify the legal basis for any withheld portion. Medical, juvenile, victim, security, sealed, expunged, and investigative material can be restricted or redacted.

A written request preserves appeal rights. Pennsylvania’s Right-to-Know Law generally gives an agency five business days to respond, with a qualifying extension available under the statute. Criminal court orders belong with the Clerk of Courts rather than the general county records officer.
Perry Bookings Housed Elsewhere
Perry’s 2019 PREA audit states that women were booked at the prison and then transported elsewhere. The 2026 medical request still counts women housed elsewhere among the county’s bookings. Administrative connection to Perry County and physical location can therefore diverge. A search limited to the New Bloomfield building can miss the actual custodian.
Check the PA SAVIN reporting agency, the UJS commitment, any transport or transfer record, and confirmation from prison staff. Ask which facility received the person. A move out of Perry County Prison is not a release to the community unless the event record says so. This distinction also applies when space, treatment, state sentencing, or federal authority sends someone outside the county.
Perry County Prison Release History
The county’s history describes a stone jail commissioned in 1824, a surrounding wall in 1827, and a brick jail contracted in 1902 and occupied in 1903. By the late 1980s, crowding led Perry County to house overflow in Juniata and nearby counties. A new site was acquired, construction started in 1989, and the account describes the modern prison project and a work-release or trustee unit.
Those dates are historical, not evidence of present capacity or current release practice. The useful modern lesson is durable: a Perry case may be administered locally while the person is elsewhere. The named custodian and destination record control. Historic overflow should never be used to guess where someone is held today.
Perry County Prison Release Logistics
The official prison material does not publish a release-processing time, exit door, property-pickup procedure, family waiting area, gate payment, transportation arrangement, or weekend and holiday practice. Its visitation hours do not answer any of those questions. Call the prison before traveling or arranging a pickup and ask only for the current operational rule that applies.
Money accepted at commitment enters the inmate account, but the official page does not explain how a remaining balance is returned at release. It also does not state how identification or other property is handed back. Those are fair questions for prison staff. They should not be filled with procedures borrowed from a different Pennsylvania county.
Work release presents another status trap. A person may leave for approved activity and return while remaining committed. House arrest is community placement under court limits. Confirm the signed order and whether Perry County Probation or the prison still has responsibility before describing either as discharge.
Perry County Prison ICE Transfers
A Perry County Prison release to an ICE detainer is an interagency handoff, not a return to the community. First ask whether Perry recorded a transfer and identify the receiving agency. Then search the ICE Online Detainee Locator with an A-number and country of birth or exact biographical details. ICE says its locator can cover current detainees and people released from ICE custody within the last sixty days.
A no-hit does not prove release, removal, or community return. Spelling, update timing, safety rules, and other limits can affect the result. The ICE Detention Reporting and Information Line is 1-888-351-4024 on weekdays, excluding federal holidays, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern. Describe the county event as transfer until the immigration-custody stage is resolved.
Perry Prison to PADOC Transfer
A state sentence can remove a person from the Perry County Prison population without releasing that person from confinement. Under 42 Pa.C.S. § 9762, the maximum term and statutory findings affect whether confinement belongs in county or state custody. Read the signed commitment and later orders instead of using a roster disappearance as proof.
Search the PADOC Inmate and Parolee Locator after allowing for intake and daily updates. Use the DOC number when known, or surname plus a first-name refinement. Match the committing county and stable identifiers. A PADOC inmate result confirms the state branch. A state parolee result can later show physical release from an SCI while the sentence continues under supervision.
